Of Valentin Muratov's three children, there was only one daughter and she was the only one to survive by the time the family left Russia. Between Candice's death and Valentin's return, she was forced to care for herself, both in the old, familiar world, and the new, post-mess world. There were no family friends outside Russia, and she had no way of contacting them. To stay alive, she stole from those with clean water, and before Valentin's return, she'd become strong enough to beat it out of people. When he came back, his attachment to Domingo's group became her attachment.

While she started out as a servant, it quickly became clear that she was cut out for combative work and spent much of her career as the muscle of her groups, until Codine appeared. She quickly befriended him, seeing an advantage in having such a tower as a personal ally, and Elaine fixed guns for her because of this attachment. When she finally reached command position, she requested them both above others, as well as a few more she knew to be good combatants who were high on potential and sorely under-rated in Domingo's network, her plan to shape them into the best group there was.
